This is a hands-on Joomla class where each student will create their own, real, live, professional looking website.
From 10 a.m. till noon we will have a short powerpoint overview of Joomla then take a pre-installed basic Joomla installation and add extensions that would likely be used with most sites. The extensions we install are free open source extensions available from the over 9,000 Joomla extensions currently available. Some of the 9,000+ extensions are free and some are commercial.
Then from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. the class covers the administration, configuration, fine tuning, and use of Joomla: Logging in, password security, personal profile, global configuration, maintenance, users, access levels, menus, articles, categories, featured articles, media and image management, Joomla components, modules and plug-ins, editors, backup, SEO, templates, etc.
This is a "how to effectively use it" class for the layman and it is NOT a class on scientific web theory, web design, or programming code.
Each student will be assigned their own temporary domain, a live site, and what they do will affect only their temporary domain and not affect any other student's domain. They will become familiar with the main functionality of Joomla.
You do not need code knowledge in order to make a nice website in Joomla.
Class starts at 10:00 a.m.
10:00 - 12:00 Class covers: Joomla overview, each student is assigned a temporary domain.
12:00 - 1:00 Lunch time - lunch is not provided, however there are local restaurants.

Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications.
Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available.
Since the software is OpenSource it is free. Free does NOT mean cheap quality.
Here are just a few examples of Web sites that use Joomla:
